Things Get Lost

A sad fact of traveling is that items are misplaced and sometimes left behind. This week we went to buy a couple of used things and took a bus, the metro, and walked a fair distance. Kati was wearing her sun hat that my grandmother made her (her only hat) and somewhere on one of the three legs on the way home, her hat fell off and we left it behind.

Toys, hat, and water bottles, just a short list of things we've lost on trips.

This is a very important thing to take into consideration when you are traveling with young children. It is always a good idea to bring a few extra things when you go somewhere, knowing it will be difficult to find a replacement. It is very important to pack as light as possible, but you also don’t want to be under prepared.

Things I recommend packing extra:

-1 water bottle (one should be good no matter how many kids you have… it is unlikely you will forget all 3 bottles on the same leg of the trip)

-Hats! Bring two hats per child for the trip, whether it is a hat to keep the sun from sunburning your little one’s face, or a winter hat to keep them warm.

-Clothes! This is true especially if you have a child that has recently been potty trained. I’m sure you always know this one, but it is always nice to have a light (easy to carry, so you can take it out with you) change of clothes in case of the inevitable.

-Diapers… you can never have too many, in my opinion.

-Cloth wipes. If you don’t have any, you should invest in some, they are AWESOME!  You can buy a pack of 20 (although I would only pack about 10) for around $13 on ebay, and you will be supporting a work at home mom. Double awesome.

And remember, losing things is not the end of the world. If you have a good attitude about it, odds are that good attitude will transfer to your children. Unless you loose the best friend stuffed animal… in which case I am so sorry… been there done that.

    1. Yeah, we go through this problem every night… Kati hides Waddles (her best friend/penguin) somewhere, forgets she did it, and then gets mad he isn’t in her bed when it’s bedtime… sorry about the giraffe 🙁
