Graco Car Seat Recall – 3.7 Million Seats

Here are the details you need about the Graco car seat recall:

Graco Car Seats produced between 2009 and 2013 under the names Cozy Cline, Comfort Sport, Classic Ride 50, My Ride 65, My Ride 70, My Ride 65 with Safety Surround, Size4Me 70, My Size 70, Head Wise 70, Smart Seat. Harnessed Booster Seats: Nautilus 3-in-1, Nautilus Elite and Argos have latches that can become stuck, and trap your child in case of an emergency.

You can still use your seat until you get the replacement buckle according to the recall, but I would personally recommend carrying a pair of heavy duty scissors with you just in case. My husband wanted me to remind you readers that it is always a good idea to keep heavy duty scissors in your vehicle in case a seat belt becomes stuck in a serious accident  (he’s right, of course… his mother is a retired emergency response advisor and instructor).

Graco Car Seat Recall

Graco’s website says that this can be caused by food or drink spilling into the latch (classic place the blame on the customer) however the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says that this is completely untrue and accused Graco of trying to make the recall seem less serious by issuing “incomplete and misleading” documents. This is blatantly obvious if you look at Graco’s recall information.

There have been numerous complaints on message boards and websites today of parents that never let their child have food or water while in the car seat, and still having to their child held captive in the malfunctioning harness.

If you have one of these seats, please contact Graco immediately for a replacement buckle, whether you have had problems yet or not. The best way is to email at this address: consumerservices@gracobaby.com

I am really dissapointed in how Graco is responding to this recall. Business 101, never blame the customer for a product malfunction!!! NEVER!

I don’t currently own a Graco seat, but you can be sure I won’t be buying or recommending any of their products in the future unless they do an immediate about face and take full responsibility and apologize to their customers for attempting to place the blame on them.

In case you are wondering about the car seats I use, I recommend Britax for their FAA friendly carseats, and Diono for their ability to make a very safe convertible seat for a compact vehicle. Check out this post for more information on air friendly car seats.

Happy and Safe Travels!!
